How to Create a Wedding Hashtag for Your Irish Wedding

9/1/2023

Everyone knows about the importance of hashtags in social media. They make it easy to find specific topics online and track trends, but did you know that wedding hashtags are also an excellent way for couples to be remembered by future guests?

A wedding hashtag is a unique phrase or word you can use on your invites and social media posts leading up to the big day. It's important that it's easy to remember so guests can easily find your memorable photos when they look through old pictures in their digital archives years later!

Keep It Simple

Most people will only be able to remember a few words, so choose short and memorable ones without being too common. Avoid using numbers, symbols and foreign languages (unless you're making your hashtag bilingual). Don't use words that are too similar or identical to other wedding hashtags.

Keep it short and sweet
Use words that are easy to pronounce, spell and remember (e.g., don't use acronyms/abbreviations)
Avoid using words that sound alike or have similar spelling

Make It Original

If you're planning on using a hashtag for your wedding, you want to avoid ending up with the same hashtag as someone else! It's unlikely that you'll compete with them for attention or search results, but it's still awkward and confusing if two weddings have similar hashtags.

Consider Acronyms

There are a ton of wedding hashtags that have been used for years, but if you want to be unique and not just another hashtag, it's important to think long and hard about what your hashtag will be.
Use acronyms that are easy to remember. Acronyms make the most sense when they're short and simple, like "R&R" or "YOLO."
Avoid acronyms that are already taken on other platforms. If people are already using #bestweddinginireland or #dublinwedding in their Instagram captions all day long, then there's no reason for them to use yours as well!
Make sure the acronym isn't offensive before using it in your social media posts or invitations.
ComeUp with Multiple Options

It's best to do this early in the planning process because if you change your mind later on, you'll want to easily change the hashtag and all associated content (like social media posts).

Google "wedding hashtags" and scroll through some of the top results. This gave me an idea about what other people were using—and how many times they'd been used! Check out Pinterest, where there are tons of wedding planning boards filled with pins from brides who have created hashtags for their weddings. Search Instagram for fun ideas like where couples got married in your city (like Dublin), and see if they had a fun play on words for the location.

Gather your hashtag options and share them with your friends and family to see which ones they like best!

We hope you can use these tips to create a wedding hashtag to help your guests and family remember your special day. A lot of thought and effort goes into planning a wedding, so why not take the time to make sure your hashtag is memorable too?
